Russel Wendell Simmons is an American businessman, writer, record executive, philanthropist, and film producer. He was born on October 4, 1957, in Queens, New York, and raised in Maryland. He graduated from August Martin High School, he also attended the City College of New York.
Simmons met DJ / Bboy, Kart Walter who influenced the hip hop phenomenon. He co-founded “Def Jam” (1984). He was also a co-producer and appeared in the film “Krush Groove (1985), Simmons produced HBO television hits Def Comedy Jam and Def Poetry Jam. His brilliant writing led him to be the co-producer of the hit movie "The Nutty Professor" (1996) with Eddie Murphy. He is the co-founder of “RushCard” (2003) and created the clothing line “Phat Fashions LLC. He and his brothers founded the Rush Philanthropic (1995) He was awarded an Honoris Causa Doctorate in Human Letters
